Baird Spins for Big Oil/Industry: We’ll fix it, but taxpayers should pay for it.

j0403619.jpgToday Dion promised to make Big Oil/Industry pay for excess greenhouse gas emissions they produce taking Canadian resources out of the ground/sea. The money will be paid into a holding fund and industry/big oil can use this fund to help them develop projects and technologies that will reduce pollution/green house gases. This seems like a much more sensible policy for Canadians than handing 155 million of taxpayer money to the coal industry/big oil to conduct a study on reducing emissions. I think that the structure Dion is suggesting will quickly increase innnovation in reducing greenhouse gases because industry is going to want their money back as quickly as possible.

I watched dumbfounded when Baird tried to spin Dion’s plan as a money grab from oil/industry. The globe and mail reported,

Environment Minister John Baird dismissed the Liberal’s party’s newly announced climate change plan as a money grab and a weak effort

Does he actually think Canadians are going to buy that? I think we have a pretty good idea of just how much money big oil/industry is making these days. I sincerely doubt the Cons will find much sympathy with Canadians on this issue.

Baird knows there’s a crowd of loyal brain-free drones that will trust whatever someone with “Conservative” stamped on their door tells them.
