900 million more for Quebec: 250 million for child care…for the entire country.

j0407458.jpgOh this makes me angry. Why is the aerospace industry in Montreal getting 900 million taxpayer dollars, but the entire country is only going to get 250 million dollars in total for child care this year? This is Quebec, the province that already has a universal child care system funded through our system of asymmetrical federalism. This year 12.7 billion in equalization payments, from the rich provinces of Ontario, Alberta and BC, were transferred to the 7 have-not provinces. Quebec a have-not province just received 56% of that total pie.

What the heck is going on here? No wonder the polls show the Conservatives dropping like stones in places like BC….. but I notice they are continuing to rise in Quebec. To think we could have 3 more years of this garbage.

And to think, thanks to the Conservative party (AKA Stephen Harper) Canada is now in last place in the developed world when it comes to Child Care.
It appears kids aren’t in that one third voting block Steve needs to become Emporer.

It’s going to the industry, not quebec. Tho’ Quebec is the home of about 60% of the industry.

Well I am just feeling a whole lot better Wilson61 knowing my tax dollars are going to Quebec industry and the rest of the country gets jack for child care. Why wasn’t it only a week ago we learned that BC, Alberta and Ontario’s money went to pay for a nice big fat tax cut for Quebecors? Thanks for this big eye opener. Disgusting! Furious does not describe accurately enough how I am feeling about this right now. Harper is trying to set the provinces in this country against each other and he is tearing the country apart in the process.

You know what is just hilarious? Imagine if wilson, the koolaid drinking reformer, read that article while the Liberals were in power. The HORROR!! You know what the silence from the “base” about this payoff is staggering, given the basis for the “fight” in the first place.

The TPC fund was a Liberal horror story.
This program REPLACES the Technology Partnerships Canada fund, where there are on going investigations, and the audits turned up little value for huge cost, as with most Liberal programs.

example: ”Between 1996 and August 2004, the program provided $2.5-billion in funding agreements with 197 companies, but as of March this year only $156-million had been repaid.”
”The audit looked at 47 of TPC’s recipient companies, which were selected because of suspicions of non-compliance.”

    google: Technology Partnerships Canada, investigation
goto Hilltimes, ‘cached’ for the entire story.
    Or, stay uninformed, what ever…

”The Tory government had been expected to unveil their replacement Technology Partnerships Canada for weeks now.

The TPC, whose mandate was not renewed last year, provided venture capital for corporate research projects.”

What a bunch of crap wilson61…just like a Con though..blame everyone else for the crappy descisions of the Harper government. It’s about time they faced up to the mess they are making of this country and stop blaming their idiocy and incompetence on everyone else. And the Hill Times is a total conservative rag…so I’ll pass on their opinion.

Hey wilson, maybe should go review your platform and the past campaign, wherein PMSH stated opposition to “subsidies”, favoring taxcuts. Your hypocrisy is entirely consistent with your say one thing, do another party.

  9. Woman At Mille 0 says:

Call it whatever you like pwilson61 ….I’ll just call it Tory style federalism where the Cons get to stay in power as Quebec just watches the cash roll in and the rest of us get royally screwed.

  10. Woman At Mille 0 says:

Consistency and conviction would make to much sense Steve. Harper’s beliefs (subsidy to business, climate change) and policies change by the moment and are based on getting votes . He seems to have no concern about governing this very large country fairly to ensure cohesion is maintained. .

I suspect that the latest compromise regarding state banking regulation points to the influence of large corporations on the Congress as a culprit in the on-going eclipse of federalism. I have just posted on this, in case you are interested.
